Maasai Mara
The Maasai Mara, often simply referred to as the Mara, is a large game reserve in southwestern Kenya, contiguous with the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. It is named after the Maasai people, the traditional inhabitants of the area, and the Mara River, which divides it.
The Maasai Mara is renowned for its exceptional population of lions, leopards, cheetahs, and elephants, and for the annual migration of zebra, Thomson's gazelle, and wildebeest to and from the Serengeti every year from July to October, known as the Great Migration.
The vast, rolling grasslands and the Mara River, dotted with hippos and crocodiles, create an ecosystem that supports an incredible variety of wildlife, making the Maasai Mara one of the most popular tourist destinations in Kenya and a jewel in the crown of African wildlife conservation.
